हरित भारत के लिए राष्ट्रीय मिशन प्रधानमंत्री जलवायु परिवर्तन पर परिषद द्वारा अनुमोदित किया गया है. भारत की राष्ट्रीय कार्य योजना क्लाइमेट चेंज के तहत आठ में सें एक मिशन है. मिशन का उद्देशय दस लाख हेक्टेयर वन क्षेत्र की गुणवत्ता में वृद्धि करना है.
चार BASIC देशों के पर्यावरण मंत्रियों अर्थात्, ब्राजील, दक्षिण अफ्रीका, भारत और चीन को नई दिल्ली में मुलाकात में कैनकन जलवायु परिवर्तन और वैश्विक और राष्ट्रीय स्तर पर नीति क्रिया का आकलन और समन्वय पर चर्चा की. नवम्बर २००९ में गठित इस चौकड़ी गठन की यह छठी बैठक थी.

India today hosted a joint Indo-US workshop on HydroFluoroCarbons (HFCs). Speaking at the event, Minister Jairam Ramesh noted that India had been a responsible participant in the Montreal Protocol. India recognizes that while HFCs are a 'solution' from an ozone perspective, they are a 'problem' from climate change perspective, and that India would contribute to addressing the issue innovatively. The Union Cabinet today approved the creation of four IG level posts for the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA). This decision, in conjunction with the recent decision to set up 3 regional offices of the NTCA in Nagpur, Guwahati and Bengaluru, is expected to give a major boost to India's tiger conservation efforts. Welcoming the decision, Minister Jairam Ramesh said: "There is no doubt that today's decision will strengthen the capacity of the NTCA to deliver on its mandate."
India and the World Bank today agreed to further strengthen their partnership to advance India's green-growth agenda at a meeting between Minister Jairam Ramesh, and World Bank Group President Robert B. The Ministry of Environment and Forests and the Ministry of Tribal Affairs constituted a Joint Committee in अप्रैल 2010 to comprehensively review the implementation of the Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act, 2006. The Committee members were selected from a wide spectrum of stakeholders consisting of retired civil servants, forest officers, tribal department officers and representatives of Civil Society Organisations and NGOs. The Committee has submitted its final report and findings.

The Ministry of Environment and Forests today notified the Wetlands (Conservation and Management) Rules, 2010. These Rules, which for the first time lay down legally enforceable provisions for the conservation and management of Wetlands, have been drafted to ensure better conservation and management and to prevent further degradation of existing wetlands in India.

This will be the nodal agency for the Integrated Coastal Zone Management Project (ICZM) being implemented by the Government of India. Speaking at the event, the Minister emphasised the role of coastal ecosystems as a source of income, a foundation for economic development as well as a barrier against natural disasters.

The Minister today released a discussion paper on an emissions trading scheme for air pollutants in India. The paper has been prepared by experts from J-PAL, MIT and Harvard University at the request of the Ministry. Pilot studies are being planned with State governments that are putting in place online monitoring systems. The Ministry invites comments on the paper.

A Group of Experts has submitted a detailed assessment of the potential for reintroducing the cheetah in India, recommending three potential sites for reintroduction. The cheetah, which is a flagship specie of the deciduous dryland/grassland ecosystem, became extinct in India in the 1960s. The word "cheetah" derived from the Sanskrit word citrakayah.

The National Green Tribunal Bill (2009), which intends to set up specialised environmental courts across the country, was passed in both Houses of Parliament. It will now be sent for Presidential assent. The Bill envisages the setting up of Green Tribunals, comprising judicial and expert members to adjudicate substantial questions of the environment, and award civil penalties.
