Policy and Law (PL) Division

Environment Policy as outlined in the National Conservation Strategy and Policy Statement 1992 has periodically been reviewed keeping in view the emerging issues at the National as well as the Global Levels. To protect these objectives a set of legislative and regulatory measures, aiming at the preservation, conservation and protection of the environment have been done. These include framing of rules, notification of standards, notification of environmental laboratories, delegation of powers, identification of agencies for management of hazardous Councils in the States etc.

Beside these, under Environmental Management Capacity Building project, strengthening the implementation of Environmental Law in India has been taken up. Under this project a number of training/workshop/sem1nars have been organized by National Law School of India University, Bangalore to strengthen the legal framework. Training for Government officers, Judges, Law teachers, Advocates, Industrial Managers, LSGs and NGOs have been undertaken.
